Serco has partnered with Garbology to raise the bar in sustainability at corrections facilities. The Clarence Correctional Centre near Grafton in NSW is nearing completion, and is expected to be operational in mid 2020. It will be the largest correctional facility in Australia.
Serco and Garbology are aiming to produce a zero waste corrections facility and are looking to engage broadly with companies that want to be part of the solution. Sustainable procurement, recycling and reuse of mainstream and niche products are all core to the future management of the site.
The Clarence Correctional Centre has the potential to become a best-practice site for large scale zero waste and circular economy principles.
